Recent News
- There is still time to register for the Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources ALB training session in Worcester on Wednesday, February 24 at 1:00 PM! The first 50 registrants get a free ALB t-shirt. Educators and local government staff not yet familiar with this pest are encouraged to attend. - USDA APHIS will hold public meetings this March in Holden, Worcester and West Boylston to discuss the pesticide treatment plan for Asian longhorned beetle-susceptible trees.
- An updated list of companies under Asian longhorned beetle regulatory compliance is now available along with a new phone number to register for compliance training (508-852-8110).
- Maple sugaring season is almost here! Members of the Mass. Maple Producers Association will have ALB outreach materials at many of their sugar houses and retail locations - keep an eye out for these sweet posters from MDAR. If you're a maple syrup producer and want to help spread the word about ALB, you can get outreach materials by emailing Jennifer.Forman-Orth AT state.ma.us

Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities:
- Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources staff will have information about ALB and other invasive pests at Russell's Garden Center's Annual Winter Garden Fair in Wayland, MA on Feb. 28.
- Maine PBS will air the ALB documentary, "Lurking in the Trees" on Feb. 28. You can read a note about Asian Longhorned Beetle from Maine Representative Jeff McCabe.
- Rebecca Smith from the Mass Audubon Society will be speaking about "Appreciating Trees: ALB and Opportunities to Learn" at the Massachusetts Environmental Education Society meeting in Worcester on March 3. If you are there, stop by the Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources table for even more ALB info!
- An ALB training session with Rose Hiskes from Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will be held in Middletown, CT, March 4.
- ALB Eradication Program staff will be speaking about the Worcester program at the UMass Tree Conference in Amherst, MA on March 9. UMass Extension entomologist Robert Childs will be also speaking about ALB and other insect pests.
Past Events:
- MDAR and USDA staff conducted outreach on ALB and other invasive pests at New England Grows and the Lumber and Building Material Expo, both in Boston, reaching thousands of nursery, landscaping and lumber industry professionals from all over the Northeast.
- The Kingston, NH Conservation Commission and Friends of the Kingston Open Space (FOKOS) presented an Asian longhorned beetle program at the Kingston Town Hall. The event was televised on Kingston Cable and recorded on DVD for distribution.
