Past Outreach Events:
- Outreach to promote awareness of the Asian longhorned beetle was strong at this year's Big E in Springfield. Booths promoting ALB education were hosted by USDA/APHIS, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), The Massachusetts Maple Producers Association, The Master Gardeners of Western Mass., and the Natural Resources Conservation Service of Worcester County. On Massachusetts Day, MDAR hosted a special booth and a volunteer from The Massachusetts Audubon Society's Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center came dressed in an ALB costume.
- Volunteers assisted Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources staff in surveying trees in both Boston and Springfield for signs of ALB damage. MDAR staff are extremely grateful to the many volunteers that showed up, as well as to the Parks Departments in both Boston and Springfield, who were essential in organizing the surveys. Coverage of the Springfield event can be seen at WGGB's website.
- ALB outreach was conducted recently at the Mass Outdoor Expo in Sturbridge, the South End Open Market in Boston, and the Topsfield Fair. The newly formed Mass Geocachers organization also took outreach materials to place in geocaches across the state.
