Recent News

  • Vermont is banning out-of-state firewood to prevent the unintentional transport of the Asian longhorned beetle and emerald ash borer. Visitors to state parks can exchange their out-of-state wood for local wood (Vermont Public Radio)
  • The Worcester Telegram & Gazette has published an editorial statement about the long and difficult battle against the Asian longhorned beetle, asking residents to remain vigilant and patient.
  • Forestry officials in Maine and New Hampshire are asking out-of-state campers, as well as residents who have purchased unfinished furniture or bagged mulch, to be on the alert for the Asian longhorned beetle and emerald ash borer (seacoastonline.com)
  • The UK's Independent has a report about the damage to U.S. forests caused by ALB, the emerald ash borer and the mountain pine beetle.
  • The Valley Breeze discusses the potential for an ALB outbreak in Rhode Island, due to its close proximity to Worcester.
  • Confusion in Worcester over when and where new trees will be planted to replace the large ALB-infested maples that have been removed. Video at NECN.com.
  • Tree industry professionals in Maine recently received ALB training to help prevent the pest from entering the state (WABI TV 5).
  • Out-of-state firewood is now banned in New Hampshire state parks and the White Mountain National Forest, unless it is kiln-dried and in its original packaging (NHPR)
  • The Massachusetts ALB Eradication Program has hired additional staff to increase its survey efforts and assist with tree removals and plantings (Worcester Telegram & Gazette)
  • A City Council subcommittee in Worcester has approved the cutting of ALB-infested trees through the end of June, due to the discovery of 347 additional trees with ALB (Worcester Telegram & Gazette).
